Holy shiiiiiit! Aaron, my man, you're back! And you brought some crazy shit! I'm so excited aahhhfb sj
I've taken some time to analyze this design and it's rad! The name of it appears to be I Monstar, which has me thinking of The Monstars from Space Jam. It's a very unique designed based upon genetic engineering and cybernetic augmentation. It's crazy looking, reminds me a lot of Tang Dynasty era Chinese Imperial Guards. His forehead appears to have the engraving of an fMRI scan of a brain. Strands off the side of the head and the upper lips. I believe these are supposed to be spider trichobothria style ultra-sensitive strands for the detection of vibrations. Exposed artificial muscle wraps around his neck up to his head. This dude could probably survive a car crash. Body is massive, muscular, and covered in a thick rhino hide-like skin. Nose appears to only exist for aesthetics as his actual nasal membrane is exposed, openings being at the bottom two sides of the sort of hexagon the fMRI is engraved upon. Throat has a tesellated triangle pattern with exposed artificial muscle and small ports, perhaps — like the gangster you designed for Elysium — it is for exhaling smoke or chemical contaminants through? Would definitely look menacing. Hair appears to be something robotic, similar to your nurses from Elysium, sheets of hardened polymer plates comprised of geometric shapes. Bolts are on its face to keep the artificial muscle on? Beard looks like some scraggly pubes. My idea about what this design is are as follows: A Chinese gangster, perhaps a member of the Triad or its futuristic equivalant, who is heavily augmented with black market cybernetics and gene therapies. Very rich, and is part of well off crime family with a long interesting lineage heavily involved in Chinese history. He's older, but not that old, and has decided to really beef himself up, turning him into a hulking monster, an uncanny beast similar to a man. Infamous in the criminal world of China, he is an excellent negotiator, due in part because of his augmented intelligence, but mostly because of his uncanny appearence, seemingly unbeatable strength, and assortment of underlings ranging from lowly gangsters equipped with military grade exoskeletons and cybernetics, to 8 foot tall bio-engineered femme fatales who stand by his side. He is a wanted man, and is always on the run from the police, the government, and the many he has wronged and cheated.Design is rad, and hope to see a lot more from you soon.By the way, I believe this design in either an earlier form, or in a variant image, was shown in the collage of images you showed off for CARBON, as well as in the CARBON UPDATE, which has a lady who's brain has been replaced by a big plate with an fMRI engraving on it.Also, Imperial Chinese Guard sculpture that looks surprising like this dude: http://users.skynet.be/gerry/to_delete_0044.jpg
Brother! You fucking nailed it! Amazing analysis, I'm honoured. Cheers!
Wow, I'm glad I was able to impress the likes of you with my geeky ramblings. You're awesome, dude, and your designs are some of the best out there. I love analyzing your designs, and with how strange, cool, and unique this guy was, I had a great time coming up with a story for him. Every design you've done feels like it has so much thought in it that I just want to write paragraphs upon paragraphs about each and every one of them. If you have any more designs down the pipeline, I'll be sure to give them another in depth analysis. If you do release another design, I'd love for it to be that upgraded Gunner robot with the 40mm autocannon in the CARBON art collage, or the synthetic dude with the big backpack. Those are two of the most intriguing new designs you've made.Oh, and by the way, the honour is all mine. Cheers to you!
What program do you use? I'm thinking its Adobe Photoshop but idk :/also your Art is amazing
Uuuugh so good, and so glad to see an update!
More...MORE!! Incredible design! Whatever happened to the Carbon project anyways? I'm hoping you will complete it because I will be the first person to buy it.
Well, I believe this might be a part of CARBON as well, seeing the title and the logos in the image. I think the project is going strong, but delayed a bit due to time constraints (work with WETA, freelance work, etc..), but he's still coming up with ideas and designs for it. I agree with your sentiment, though.
Thanks guys! Yes this design is part of my Carbon project. The bulk of which is on a slow burn while I focus on my full time work and my car projects. Cheers!
Ah, alright. Thanks for the clarification. Hey, you do what you need to do. Hope you're able to post some work you've done for whatever super secret projecfs that you're doing down in LA.Just a suggestion: As you move forward with your Carbon project, I would suggest during the crowdfunding stage that you use something like IndieGoGo or Patreon rather than Kickstarter. With Kickstarter, you have to reach your goal to get funding, so if your goal is, say $10,000, and you reach $9,872, all that money will not go to you. However, with IndieGoGo, even if you do not reach your goal — like if you made 5k to a 10k goal — you would still get the money. With Patreon, you could get consistent funding per month assuming enough people pledge. With Patreon, you would also release little updates and posts that may or may not be exclusive to supporters.
The slow burn is killing me though. lol
Seriously though, perhaps could you post just one more pic from your portfolio that you have not released yet of one of your more complex robot soldiers? That might hold me over until you eventually focus on completing Carbon. Thanks.
Hey, Olternaut, didn't you say you had an idea for a cool design for Carbon? I'd like to hear what types of ideas you've got.
Olternaut, what's your email? :)
Ey, what about me? I too am tormented by an everlasting itch for neat robots.
Mr Sdaerf, your email please!
Uhh...I don't suppose you tried to email yet have you? Did not see anything yet. Thanks. ;)
Hey, this might be the wrong place to post this, but I've taken a bit of time to analyze a design from Carbon which was in your image collage. The mountaineering robot, if my theory is indeed correct. It is a robot equipped for alpine warfare. Upon its shoulder is a D-shaped clip — a carabiner, more specifically a yellow D-shaped straight gate, used for mountain climbing by attaching grapples and cables to it. On its other shoulder is an ammo belt leading down its back into its gun, leading me to believe — similarly to several other designs you've made — that its body is an ammo-tank/fuel cell. Its gun appears to be a battle rifle with an integrated muzzle brake, long-ranged high-powered scope, foregrip, and floodlight; alongside the ammunition belt feed from the body. Trichobothria-style fibers allow for 360 degree tracking of subtle variations in air density as well as other effects in order to sense nearby targets or disturbances (rockslides, treebranch snapping, wild animals, etc..).Its lower body has an armor-plate protected crotch, plus the two legs, both of which have specialized feet for mountain-climbing, which have a standard articulated toe area, however with built-in clamps for attaching to rock protrusions, allowing for improved rappeling abilities. It also likely has setae fiber pads for van der Waals force-based intermolecular bonding for vertical ascendance of relatively smooth cliff-faces and mountain sides, as well as emergency anchoring via servo-motor driven anchors that drive into surfaces and securing themselves via articulated barbs, ala your AR-4 Huntsman design. Also on the legs are a pair of attachments for the hot-swappable hands also akin to the Huntsman. Hydraulic rescue tool which has a small integrated pump so no need for complicated hydraulic piping, merely a power supply to power the powerful yet tiny electric pumping system; the robot's fuel cell should handle that. The other attachment appears to be a grappling gun, which fires out a typical grapple head for rapid vertical ascending. Perhaps it even has a high-powered electric motor for even quicker ascending. Now, for the head, I'm thinking its a standard robotic head complete with processor, sensors, etc., plus synthetic trichobothria. Now, here's where I go a bit off the rails: What if its head was a solar panel? It's certainly reasonably well shaped for such a task. Plus, if the robot is running off of a liquid hydrocarbon-based fuel cell, this solar panel could allow for some neat artificial photosynthesis. I'm thinking its low on fuel and runs across a small stream of water during its patrol. So, it uses some piece of equipment he has, like a water filter or something, fills up a tank in its torso with water, and just puts itself into a sort of semi-alert 'sleep' mode and just converts the water into liquid hydrocarbon using solar power. This is a real technology that exists right now and would allow for that robot a whole hell of a lot of longevity. Patrols for days. Also, gotta hand it to you on that logo. A combination of your style of clinical markings of serial numbers and such, alongside a logo very similar to the US military's New York-based 10th Mountain Division (which, hilariously enough, is not based around any mountains...). Plus, is that a lynx silhouette? If so, awesome. Those are very cool and very famous alpine-based animals so its perfect for that design. And speaking of which, that design is awesome. Would love to find it in the artbook when its out.
Once again, you've outdone yourself! Very cool reading this! It thrilling that someone would take the time and care develop on what they feel a design is portraying. Thanks man!
Hey Aaron you don't happen to be doing any concept work Infinite Warfare are you?
Yes, I've been working with Infinity Ward on Infinite Warfare, and hopefully I'll be able to share some designs soon!
Ah, I knew I recognized your style in those trailers!
